Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year

 

As we approach Christmas 2011 and the beginning of 2012, we are reminded of many blessings that we enjoy as Americans—a country founded on God’s principles, a vibrant democracy, a form of government "of the people, by the people, and for the people" who "are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness", and a system of commerce based upon free choice and unlimited opportunities to succeed. I believe that our country’s Founders were divinely inspired when they laid the foundation for our new nation and I believe that same American spirit still lives. I believe, however, that it is important for us to remember that we owe future generations the same opportunities that earlier generations of Americans gave to us – with God’s help, we will succeed in this never ending quest.

With the conclusion of military operations in Iraq, we need to be ever thankful for the sacrifices that our brave military men and women made to make victory possible in this endeavor. We also need to continue to support our troops who continue to fight the War on Terror in Afghanistan and in other areas around the world.

While we are enjoying the holiday season with our families, please remember to pray for the families of the 6,333 Americans that have lost their lives in the War on Terror and for the 47,364 Americans that have been wounded in action in these conflicts. Their sacrifice is symbolic of the words of Jesus in John 15:13, "Greater love hath no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends," and we will be always grateful for their service and sacrifice. Last, but not least, please remember to pray for our country during these difficult times – with God’s help, we can restore its Exceptionalism.
